Milk Peda with Colored Sugar

Classic Milk Peda is an essential part of all Indian festivals. The recipe I use utilizes the instant version recipe of milk peda. To make it kid friendly, I decorated the peda with colored sugar. It's a fun recipe that the whole family can make together!

Peda
 1 cup sugar
 ½ cup milk
 1 tbsp ghee
 2 cups milk powder
 ¼ tsp cardamom
Colored Sugar
 1 tbsp sugar (for a single color)
 1 pinch powder color + 3-4 drops water

Peda Directions

Turn stove onto medium heat. Add 1 cup sugar and 1/2 cup milk. Stir until the sugar dissolves.

Cook the sugar until 1 string.

Add 1 tbsp ghee and 2 cups milk powder. Stir and cook for 4 minutes. Keep on stirring.

Remove in a separate pan. Add 1/4 tsp cardamom. Mix well.

Let the mixture cool for 30 minutes.

Colored Sugar Directions

To make one color - combine 1 tbsp sugar and 3-4 drops of color. If you are using powdered color, use a pinch of color and add 3-4 drops of water.

Peda Decoration Directions

Grease 1 tbsp measuring spoon with ghee to measure the right amount for each peda. Roll the mixture into round balls.

Make a well in the middle of the peda.

Add colored sugar in the well.

Let the peda sit for two hours to let the peda's exterior harden.
