Instant Milk Powder Gulab Jamun Recipe

The original Gulab Jaman recipe uses milk mawa which can take a long time. Nowadays Gulab Jaman is made in many different ways using short cuts. Today, I am sharing a quick and easy version of instant Gulab Jaman recipe that uses milk powder. It's a beginner-friendly recipe that tastes just as good as the original milk Mawa Gulab Jaman.

 4 tbsp fine semolina
 ¼ cup milk
 2 cups milk powder
 2 tbsp all purpose flour
 2 tbsp ghee
 1 tsp baking powder
Sugar syrup
 4 cups sugar
 3 cups water
 1 tsp lemon juice
 ¼ tsp cardamom powder
 few drops rose essence

Mix semolina and half of 1/4 cup of milk. We will be using 1/4 cup milk in total but do not add all of it to the semolina. We will use the remaining milk in a later step.

Add milk powder, all purpose flour, ghee, and baking powder and mix well. Add remaining milk and combine to form dough. The dough will not be sticky. Keep the dough aside until the sugar syrup is ready.

Sugar Syrup

Turn stove onto high heat.

Add 4 cups sugar and 3 cups water. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Then add 1 tsp lemon juice. The sugar syrup will be ready.

Turn off the heat. Add 1/4 tsp cardamom and a few drops of rose essence. Stir.

Frying dough balls

Turn stove onto low heat. Heat oil.

Do not knead dough. Make smooth balls.

Keep sugar syrup pot next to the pot of oil.

Start stirring oil. Drop dough balls into the oil.

IMPORTANT: Stir the oil constantly so that the balls have an even color all around.

Once the balls are fried, add the balls directly into the sugar syrup.

Cover the balls in syrup.

Then transfer the balls into a smaller pan. Pour syrup over the balls.

At first, the balls will be floating in the sugar syrup. Let them soak in the syrup for 4 hours. After 4 hours, the balls will sink in the sugar syrup and will be ready to consume.
