Brown Rice Masoor Dal Khichadi

Brown rice masoor dal khichadi is not only tasty but a complete healthy meal on its own. Khichadi is a great diabetic friendly recipe and for health nuts. It's also an easy recipe that a beginner level cook can try out. Be sure to try this recipe out and share with your friends and family.

Boiled Khichadi Ingredients
 ½ cup brown rice
 ½ cup masoor dal
 ½ tsp turmeric
 ¼ tsp asafoetida
 ¼ tsp carom seeds
 1 tsp ghee
Khichadi Tadka Ingredients
 1 tbsp oil
 2 tbsp ghee
 1 bay leaf
 3 cinnamon
 4 cloves
 ½ tbsp mustard seeds
 ½ tbsp cumin seeds
 ½ tsp asafoetida
 ¼ cup raw peanuts
 1 tbsp chopped garlic
 1 tbsp ginger
 ½ cup slices onions
 4 red or green chilies
 ½ tbsp turmeric
 ½ tbsp coriander cumin powder
 ½ tbsp kashmiri red chili powder
 ¼ tsp kitchen king masala
 2 cups mixed vegetables
 1 cup broccoli
 1 cup chopped tomatoes
 1 tbsp sugar
 boiled khichadi
 coriander leaves (for garnishing)

Boiled Khichadi Directions

Wash brown rice and masoor dal 3 times. Let it soak in tap water. Then cover and keep it aside for 30 minutes.

Turn stove onto medium to low heat. Put a pan in a cooker and add the soaked kichadi

Add 3 cups of water, salt to taste, turmeric, asafoetida, carom seeds, and ghee. Close cooker.

Let the pressure cooker whistle for 4 times.

Depressurize the cooker before opening. Khichadi will be cooked well

Khichadi Tadka Ingredients

Keep medium to high heat.

In a pan, add oil, ghee, 1 bay leaf, cinnamon, cloves, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, and raw peanuts. Saute for 1/2 minute

Add ginger and sliced onions. Saute for 1 minute.

Add 4 red or green chilies. Mix well

Add turmeric, coriander cumin powder, kashmiri red chili powder, and kitchen king masala. Combine everything.

Add mixed vegetables and broccoli. Add salt for vegetables. Mix well

Cover and cook 6 minutes. Stir well

Add chopped tomatoes and mix well

Add sugar. Mix and cover for 3 minutes.

Remove bay leaf.

Add boiled khichadi. Combine well. Cover the pot and bring it to a boil

When the khichadi is ready, garnish is with coriander leaves. Turn off stove. Serve khichadi with roasted papad.
